Somerset based, RMW Knight Chartered Surveyors, acting on behalf of The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, has let circa 4,000 sqft (372 sqm) to WHSmith at the new main entrance to The Christie at Oak Road, Manchester.
The agents ran an OJEU compliant market testing exercise on behalf of the Trust, working alongside the in house procurement team, and helped evaluate interest and proposals from a broad range of potential occupiers culminating in what is regarded as the optimal solution for the commercial opportunity at this location.
WHSmith will operate its newsagents/convenience store and combined M&S Café and M&S Food to Go concession (operated by WHSmith) in the newly formed open plan main entrance atrium, which is on the ground floor below the new purpose built Integrated Procedures Unit.
The Trust will continue to provide public, patient and staff catering facilities from its own restaurant.
The Christie is the largest single site cancer centre in Europe, treating more than 44,000 patients a year, serving a catchment population of 3.2 million people across Greater Manchester and Cheshire with 26% of patients being referred from elsewhere across the UK.
The Trust has an ambitious development programme and, alongside these new facilities, is currently building a proton beam therapy centre which is due to open in August 2018. The centre is being funded by the Department of Health and will be the first of only two high energy NHS proton beam therapy centres proposed in the UK.
